Mackle calls on Town to put their premier class on show

- BY GARETH McCULLOUGH

SEAN Mackle says the young Warrenpoint Town team need to learn quickly if they are to start picking up wins in the Danske Bank Premiership following the 2-2 draw at home to Carrick Rangers.

Mackle (right) is one of the more senior figures in Matthew Tipton’s dressing room along with Alan Blayney and Neil McCafferty but, by and large, the ’Point side is one of the youngest in the top flight and the former Portadown midfielder rued the missed opportunity to pick up their second win of the season against David McAlinden’s men.

Having gone behind early on to Andrew Mooney’s header, the home side hit back courtesy of a superb McCafferty free-kick just before the break before Stephen Murray put them in front a minute into the second half.

However, a number of missed chances to seal the win came back to haunt Tipton’s team as Carrick earned a draw with Michael Smith’s headed equaliser.

“We need to be ruthless in front of goal at this level. Even against the teams that are in around you, like Carrick, they’ll punish you if you don’t take your chances and that’s what’s happened. We need to learn quickly,” said Mackle.
