Bap’s widow marks death by sharing album online
THE widow of the late musician Bap Kennedy is to mark the first anniversary of his death by sharing songs from his last album with fans online.
Heartbroken Brenda Kennedy poignantly marked their wedding anniversary on Sunday by posting the track Nothing Can Stand in the Way of Love from Bap’s album Reckless Heart.
Now, as a special tribute to her husband who died after a short battle with cancer last year, she will post every track on the album in the run-up to the anniversary on November 1.
The response was immediate, with thousands listening to the track after Brenda put it online.
Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, Brenda said she was overwhelmed by the feedback.
“The response has been phenomenal, way beyond what I expected, with literally thousands of people listening to track one on the first day alone, and getting in touch about how much they love it,” she said. “Bap would have been delighted.
Bap (54), described as one of the finest musicians to ever come out of Northern Ireland, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in May 2016.
During his illness Bap, who had worked with superstars including Van Morrison, Mark Knopfler and Steve Earle, had kept fans up to date with his condition in an online blog.
He had also shared the news that he had been living with Asperger’s syndrome, which he called the engine of his creativity.
He spent his last weeks in the Marie Curie Hospice with Brenda by his bedside.
Bap had just finished recording Reckless Heart when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Posting the first song from his album online on what would have been their wedding anniversary on Sunday, Brenda said: “This day last year, we were still living in Marie Curie together; and as an anniversary present I got Bap a wireless speaker to listen to the final mixes of Reckless Heart. It was a very special time as we listened together, and Bap was happy to know the album was going to be released.
