And relax ... get more zeds with this pillow potion
Abi Jackson tries the new Calm Sleep Mist, the first offline product from the popular meditation app
What is it?
Calm.com, the popular meditation app, recently launched its first-ever offline product — a lavender-based pillow mist.
Calm Sleep Mist is mainly lavender, but also contains frankincense, chamomile and clary sage, made with 100% pure essential oils (apparently there were 10 months of blending before it decided on the final potion).
What’s it like?
Pillow sprays/mists designed to help you relax into restful slumber are 10 a penny — but this one’s managed to create quite a buzz.
Why? Well, the Calm app is pretty popular, with an average 20,000 new users daily.
Free to download, its features include more than 100 hours of meditations, sounds and scenes to promote relaxation — and ‘Sleep Stories’, basically soothing bedtime stories to help wired and stressed-out grown-ups calmly breathe their way to the land of nod.
Stephen Fry even recorded one, which he tweeted about this summer.
The Sleep Mist is Calm’s first non-cyber-based offering, designed to add an extra layer of sleep-mastery by engaging the power of aromatherapy.
At first whiff, it’s overwhelmingly a lavender spray — but a gorgeously rich and pure-smelling one.
At nearly £20 for a small bottle it’s not cheap, but a little goes a long way — a couple of spritzes near the edge of my pillow and my bedroom becomes a cloud of calm.
It really is deeply soothing. Best of all, the mist has great staying power (and trust me, I have sampled quite a few) — so the only thing drifting off during the night will hopefully be you.
