Accused who ‘pointed gun’ at neighbours is remanded

A CO Antrim man who called police to say he was “going mad and going to do something” allegedly pointed a gun at neighbours and threatened to shoot them.

Kurt Graham (20) of Spence Crescent, Cullybackey, appeared at Coleraine Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with having an imitation firearm on Saturday.

A police officer said she believed she could connect the accused to the charge. She said that at around midnight police received a report from Graham that he wanted officers to come to his home as he was “going mad and going to do something”.

An alleged injured party told police Graham had been shouting when he pointed a gun at her and threatened to shoot her and a male who alleged Graham had punched him.

The officer said the man told police the accused was holding a handgun, and had pointed it at him and said: “I’ll f ****** shoot you, you b ****** .”

The court was told that when police arrived, Graham had removed his top.

He aggressively lifted a large wooden bat above his head before telling police he had a gas-powered BB gun.

The officer said it was still being tested but is believed to be a BB gun which can fire ball bearings. It was seized along with a baton. The police officer opposed bail because of possible interference with witnesses who were neighbours. She said the witnesses were fearful Graham would shoot them.

District Judge Liam McNally adjourned the bail application and Graham was remanded in custody.
