Storm curbs Wolves’ victory quest

TORRENTIAL rain and lightning brought a premature end to Ireland Wolves’ first 50-over game against Bangladesh A in Cox’s Bazaar.

The game was evenly poised with the hosts 75 for three after 14 overs in reply to the Wolves 229, a total which marked a significant recovery from 14 for four after they had won the toss and surprisingly elected to bat.

All five players left out of last week’s four-day game between the teams came in with John Anderson taking over the captaincy from the rested Andrew Balbirnie. Top scorer: Sean Terry scored a run-a-ball in his knock of 65

The start had been delayed 15 minutes by a wet outfield, and the top order were all dismissed by the seaming ball with Jack Tector (4) caught behind, James Shannon (6) and John Anderson (0) leg before and Simi Singh caught for a second-ball duck.

But Sean Terry decided that attack was the best way to fight back and scored 65 from 64 balls with seven fours and three sixes and, even after his dismissal in the 23rd over, the last four wickets added 121.

Barry McCarthy then followed up his 39 (five fours and a six) from 32 balls with two wickets before the rain came.
