More homes added to housing scheme

- BY JOHN MULGREW

FRESH plans have been submitted to extend a housing development in Co Down.

Hundreds of properties are to be added under the proposals, which people living in the area will have a chance to probe.

Developers are hosting a pre-application public event on November 2 over the plans for Millmount Village on the outskirts of Dundonald.

There are some 123 properties at the site.

The green light has already been given to a £70m plan to build more than 480 houses at Millmount.

The work is due to be completed in the next three to four years.

Conor Mulligan, managing director of Lagan Homes, said: “As we have developed the site, we have seen the trends and changes in demand since 2009 and we have taken a number of opportunities to amend the housing layout to different parts of the development.

“Our updated applications, subject to planning approval, will deliver a modern layout consistent with the homes and densities that have already been completed at Millmount Village.

“Millmount Village is Northern Ireland’s most successful housing development with sales in excess of 80 units in the last twelve months.

“The site is a massive boost for the area, not only providing much-needed houses but also

supporting up to 100 jobs and countless suppliers throughout Northern Ireland.”

The site itself has a complicated history. Millmount formerly belonged to house-building brothers Michael and John Taggart, who borrowed from Anglo Irish Bank to buy the 96-acre plot.

After their business was placed in administration, the debt was eventually taken on by Nama.
