Tipton is hoping hisTownstars seize chance to leapfrog Carrick

WHILE international football has naturally dominated the headlines this week, in the domestic game there’s one particular match that has real importance at the wrong end of the Danske Bank Premiership.

Second from bottom Warrenpoint Town visit Carrick Rangers, who are just a point ahead of them, and both sides could do with a victory after only securing two wins in their respective Premiership campaigns so far.

The sides met at the end of September but neither could assert their authority with supporters enjoying an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Town boss Matthew Tipton admits it’s a huge game but he’s hoping fresh industry will transform his side’s fortunes.

“We had a very tight game against them just over a month ago and this could be similar, we must work hard to get the result we want,” said the former Linfield and Portadown striker.

“If we win we can go above them in the table but Carrick boss Davy McAlinden will be saying to his boys this is a great opportunity to create a bigger gap between the teams. Both sides are well aware of the significance of the result even though it’s still early in the season.

“What do we need to do? Score more goals and concede less, it’s that simple but we know we can play good football, you are just looking for more consistency.”

Meanwhile, Cliftonville are looking to continue their good Premiership form with a home win against basement boys Ballinamallard United.
