- BY MARGARET CANNING

A TECHNOLOGY company in the north-west specialising in cyber security is recruiting nearly 70 staff paying an average of almost £25,000 as its aims to boost export sales.

MetaCompliance, which was founded in 2005, has said it will double staff numbers over the next three years as it fills sales and IT roles.

Around 30 of the new posts at its support and development centre in Londonderry have already been filled.

It’s implementing a new sales model for its cloud-based cyber security models in a bid to snap up new customers in Europe and the US.

The new opportunities in the market are being driven by the threat from phishing and ransomware, as well as the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) in May 2018.

Its expansion is being backed by funding of £652,000 from economic development agency Invest NI.

MetaCompliance chief executive Robert O’Brien said: “This is an exciting stage in the growth of our business, as we implement ambitious plans to double our workforce and triple our turnover.

“Invest NI’s ongoing support is central to the continued growth of our business and we are delighted with the progress of recruitment to date and also the calibre of talent available in the north west.

“Enhancing our market development team in Derry supports the targeted approach we plan to take to maximise the sales potential of our products.

“We are focused on expanding our customer base and will be working hard to engage prospective clients from both public sector and commercial industry throughout Europe and the US.”

Jeremy Fitch, Invest NI’s executive director of business and sector development, said: “MetaCompliance is one of our most innovative technology companies with a long standing commitment to the north west.

“This new investment will support its global ambitions and create valuable employment opportunities in the Derry and Strabane District Council area.”

He said the 69 posts would generate salaries of £1.7m — an average of £24,636 each.
