One feared dead in Co Antrim crash

ONE person is feared to have died following a traffic accident in Ballymena.

The two-car smash occurred on the A26 Cran kill Road yesterday evening.

Another casualty was taken to Antrim Area Hospital for treatment following the collision.

A spokeswoma­n for the Northern Trust last night confirmed that person was in a stable condition.

Paramedics were sent to the scene after they received a call at around 6.30pm.

Three emergency crews attended, along with a rapid response vehicle and a doctor.

The A26 remained closed for the rest of the evening with the PSNI putting a series of diversions in place overnight.

Before last night’s accident, 61 people had died on Northern Ireland’s roads so far this year.

That is down from 63 fatalities in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, emergency services were also called to a crash near the Culloden Hotel in Co Down. It happened at around 6.50pm.

The Bangor-bound lanes of the A2 near Station Road were closed due to the two-vehicle collision and diversions were put in place.

Two people were taken to hospital.

Thet were in a stable condition last night.

One of the patients suffered chest injuries.

Motorists were last night advised to exercise caution on the roads as surface temperatur­es fell below zero.

Gritting was carried out on the roads as a widespread frost developed.

The possibilit­y of snow on high ground was also being predicted.

Today will see bright and sunny spells, with a scattering of showers.
