City are the team to beat but we’re not out of it, says Reds chief Klopp

- BY MARK CRITCHLEY

JURGEN Klopp has admitted that Manchester City will be difficult to catch this season, though the Liverpool manager turned down the opportunity to concede the title race.

Klopp’s side sit sixth and fell further behind Guardiola’s men in the Premier League table following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with fellow challengers Chelsea.

They are also behind Tottenham Hotspur in the table, whose manager Mauricio Pochettino conceded the title race to City on Saturday after his side’s 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion at Wembley.

Hopes of Klopp ending Liverpool’s 28-year long wait for a topflight title this May seem to have passed too, as he admits.

Yet ahead of a trip to Stoke City tonight, Klopp reminded that his players must do their best to put themselves in a position from which they can capitalise on any slip-ups.

“I saw the game against Huddersfield,” he said, referencing City’s hard-fought 2-1 win at the John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday.

“Yes it was deserved, City won, but it was not that Huddersfield could not have one or two moments. They won, and as long as they win no one else has a chance. If they stop winning and our team is then in a good moment then it is possible you can still get them.”

Klopp added: “If they keep on going like this no one has a chance and it’s already decided.”
