Outrage after dead dog found dumped in bin

- BY ANGELA RAINEY

A DEAD dog has been found dumped in a wheelie bin that was then pushed down an embankment.

The black and tan canine named Tyson was discovered in a blue recycling bin in an overgrown grass verge in Lower Rosemount, Londonderry.

An unsuspecting passer-by who made the grim find contacted Pet FBI, a group of animal enthusiasts, who retrieved its body.

The dog was taken to the vets to check for a microchip before being buried.

Daniel Barclay from Northern Ireland Says No to Animal Cruelty said: “At first glance this upsetting situation looks cold and heartless, but we don’t know how this poor dog ended up in a wheelie bin.

“There are more dignified ways of dealing with this and we would recommend if someone is scared or panicked they contact a vet or one of the many rescue centres across the country for advice.

“We hope this investigation is swift and most of all Tyson had a happy life and didn’t suffer in death, despite the indignity of his disposal.”

Dog-owning SDLP councillor Shauna Cusack said she was disgusted.

“I cannot fathom why someone would do such a heartless thing. Not only had they no regard or respect for the poor animal but none for their environment or they people who live here,” she said.

“I know not everyone feels the same about animals, but this act was just despicable and understandably distressing for the individual who found it.

“There is always help should you not be able to cope or know what to do if your pet passes — call the council, a vet, a neighbour or public representative.”
