Nixon hoping for cash to spend in January sales

COLIN Nixon is hoping for some respite from an ever-growing injury crisis after watching his Ards players “dropping like flies”.

Winger Jonny Frazer became the latest casualty when he pulled up with a hamstring injury during the midweek Toals County Antrim Shield semi-final defeat at Ballymena — just a week after losing striker Guillaume Keke to a broken ankle.

“It looks as though Jonny Fraz- er is going to be out for a while — we’re picking up injuries like there’s no tomorrow but we’ve just got to keep fighting,” said Nixon.

“We’ll have to assess whether Jonny’s is a pull or a tear but it doesn’t look good — he and Keke are the type of players that are hard to replace.

“We’re a small squad as it is, and we’re really struggling for bodies at the minute, but we just have to regroup and get on with it.

“It’s tough for us, and I don’t know what sort of business we’ll be able to do in January but we’ll certainly take a look at it because we’re dropping like flies at the minute.”

Before then there’s a busy December in store for Ards, starting with a home game against Glenavon at the Bangor Fuels Arena tomorrow.

“It will be another very tough ask for us against Glenavon, who are doing really well,” said Nixon.

“It will be a good opportunity for us to get the Shield defeat at Ballymena out of our system because it wasn’t good and we know that.

“We were disappointed we didn’t kick on from winning at Glentoran last weekend but the players are working hard and the amount of games we’ve had recently is a big ask for part-time footballers.

“Consistency is what has eluded us and that is the challenge when you are down where we are.

“We haven’t managed to find it this season.

“There have been times when we have played very, very well but we just haven’t been consistent enough,” added Nixon. Plans: Colin Nixon is keen to add to his depleted squad
