Harpur backing Swifts to meet gruelling run of fixtures head on

RYAN Harpur admits Dungannon Swifts must be more consistent.

The midfielder has been left frustrated by the Tyrone side’s rapidly changing fortunes in recent weeks.

They beat Carrick Rangers 4-0 last weekend, just days after a 4-0 home loss to Crusaders.

Today the Swifts are at Linfield — the first of three huge games in 10 days.

Dungannon have never won at Windsor Park, but Harpur, who scored a hat-trick against Carrick, believes they can spring a shock.

“It just depends which Dungannon team turns up. Is it the one that played against Crusaders, or is it the one from Saturday?” he said.

“If it’s the team from Saturday I think we will run anyone close.

“It’s about finding more consistency. That’s why teams are up around the top — they are more consistent.”

After today’s game, Dungannon face leaders Coleraine next weekend. And the following Tuesday night the Swifts meet Crusaders in the semi-finals of the BetMcLean League Cup.

It’s one of the toughest runs that Dungannon will face in this or any other season.

However, Harpur insists there is confidence within the squad that they can pull off an upset along the way.

“Nobody expects us to get anything in these games,” he added. “We think differently in our changing room, but we know they will be tough. We know that on our day we can beat anyone.”
