NEWRY DEATH
PSNI INVESTIGATE AFTER BODY OF MAN IN HIS 30s FOUND IN HOUSE
POLICE are investigating after a man in his 30s was found dead in a house in Newry yesterday morning.
Detectives and forensic officers attended the scene in The Marshes housing development on the Old Warrenpoint Road.
The body was discovered just before 9.30am.
Police said they were investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
“A post-mortem examination will take place in due course to determine the cause of death,” a PSNI spokesman said.
Independent councillor David Hyland, who lives close to where the man’s body was found in the housing development, said the community in Newry had been left “in shock that someone so young had passed away”.
“It’s sad that such a tragedy should befall someone, and my thoughts are with their family,” Mr Hyland told the Belfast Telegraph. “This is a time when people should be looking forward to celebrations with their loved ones.”
SDLP councillor Gary Stokes also extended his sympathy to the man’s bereaved relatives. “To lose a life, particularly a young life which has been cut off in its prime, is a huge shock for the family,” he said.
“I would like to offer my condolences to them.
“This is a terrible tragedy to happen in the run-up to Christmas.”
