DUP councillor says Brexit offers biggest opportunity since WW2

-

Stephen O’Neill: Being in the EU has brought more positives than negatives.

Padraig Piarais Mac AnTsaoir: Or, as a sane person might say, the worst decision forced upon Ireland by a foreign country since partition.

Robert McCord: We had the same trepidation going into the EU back in the day and it turned out fine, but it has become an all-consuming self-serving beast, so the same trepidation as we leave is understandable. So let’s just wait and see, all things take time... and that goes for reunification further up the road, steps into the unknown... exciting and challenging times ahead, embrace them?

Ian Porter: Insults won’t stop NI leaving the EU. Bye bye snowflakes.

Craig Sandeman: The guy was not saying WW2 was the last big opportunity, he was saying since the war happened this is the biggest opportunity to shine. Remark taken out of context by remoaners.

Marty Sheehan: DUP knows the British Government will sacrifice north to get a good Brexit deal for rest of England, Scotland and Wales. Need to stop kidding themselves.

James Alexander: A wonderful opportunity to build a strong prosperous NI in an independent UK. Sinn Fein’s support for the EU is conditional, I’d argue, insofar as the EU grants etc to pump into welfare, pet projects etc remain in place and whilst it is politically convenient to support the EU. Brexit provides an opportunity to put in place a strong economy for a more prosperous UK.

David Mason: Inawayhe may be right. If the rest of the UK left the customs union, but we had the ability to remain within it, we would be in a great position. However, that’s not the DUP proposal.

Frank Smyth: Great. Not content with keeping us in 1973, these guys want to drag us back to 1945. They seem to revel in the fact the GFA will be in tatters.

Neil McAuley: I think he means ‘biggest recession since Second World War’.

Dermot Mc Loughlin: The

UK went into a decade-long recession after WW2, so I guess he’s right.
