Allen hopes to make history by with wins over father and son

- BY CHARLIE PEAT

MARK Allen is looking for an unprecedented one-two as he prepares to take on Peter Lines in the third round of the Betway UK Championship.

The Northern Ireland potter beat close friend Oliver Lines 6-4 in round two and will be aiming to defeat his father in the last 32 at the Barbican in York.

Allen would be the first player in history to knock out a father and son duo at the same ranking tournament but claims Lines will be out for revenge.

He said: “Everyone bar Oliver and Peter wants to see a match between them — it’s one they want to avoid for as long as they possibly can.

“I know what it’s like to play close friends but I can’t imagine what it’s like for Oliver and Peter.

“Maybe Peter will be out for revenge because I beat Oliver. They’re two great lads and hopefully I can put both Lines out.”

Elsewhere at the Betway UK Championship, Ronnie O’Sullivan focused on matters away from the table after admitting he’d love to take part in I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!

The five-time UK Champion produced five half-century breaks to cruise past world number 73 Michael Georgiou 6-1 in the second round.

And The Rocket admitted he is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Steve Davis and Jimmy White in appearing in the reality television show.

He said: “I was looking at I’m a Celeb and I was thinking ‘wow I’ve got to have a go at that’. It looks like they’re having so much fun in there and a chance to go to Australia and get a nice little holiday too.”

O’Sullivan was joined in the third round by fellow Essex-based cueman Mark King who almost produced the first 147 break of the tournament in his second round bout with Mike Dunn.

He was storming towards the first maximum break of his career but a poor shot on the final blue left him with too much to do on the pink.
