DUNLOY club veteran Jim McLean has ratcheted up the tension ahead of tonight’s important Antrim county convention by claiming that the Saffron Vision group which came to power in 2015 has taken its eye off the ball in relation to certain club issues.
McLean, who is bidding to de- pose Collie Donnelly as chairman, believes that the convention must vote for change at the top in order that clubs will have a greater input into the day-today running of the Association.
“I believe that the status and integrity of clubs must be accorded fresh respect and that they should have a greater say in what happens within the Association in tandem with the county committee,” maintains McLean.
“I think that those who have been in power lately have tended to take their eye off the ball on club matters in particular.”
McLean makes it clear that there is a strong level of dissatisfaction within the county in relation to this. “I’m thinking here of issues like fixtures and finance,” states McLean, “There are dayto-day matters which have great relevance to clubs but I don’t believe they are being addressed properly. From soundings I have taken throughout the county, I feel there is a demand for a change in the administration at the top.”
“Tonight’s convention offers the platform for this to be established but of course that will be a matter for the delegates in attendance. The GAA is essentially a democratic organisation and I expect to see this reflected in the proceedings.” Top target: JIm McLean’s sights are on Antrim hot seat.
