€50 price tag for new Gerry Adams book proves hard to digest
SINN Fein has defended the price of Gerry Adams’ autographed book featuring his final presidential address after it was met with criticism.
Never Give Up costs €50 plus a €5 fee (a total of £48) for shipping anywhere in the world.
The party defended the price given the outgoing president is signing only a “very limited” number.
Sinn Fein says the book includes Mr Adams’ final presidential address from the 2017 Ard Fheis in both English and Irish as well as a number of photos.
The party posted a video on Facebook of Mr Adams signing covers of the book — which led to some asking about the price of it.
Upon finding out, one person said: “Too dear, would like to buy it, but couldn’t afford that price.”
Another commented: “Moans about austerity but charges €55 for a picture book.”
“Sort out the homeless rather than promoting Gerry’s memoirs,” added another.

Sinn Fein’s official Facebook page stated: “He was signing the first print run of covers that had just come off the press for the video.
“The books look great. And of course part of the price is that he is only signing a very limited number of them.”
When questioned on the delivery times of the book, Sinn Fein saiditwouldbe“worththewait”.
Author, Irish historian and Belfast Telegraph columnist Ruth Dudley Edwards was un-
impressed by the autographed volume.
“I think the book is yet another monument to Adams’ extraordinary vanity,” she said last night.
Asked who she thought might be the target market for the book, the writer said she reckoned it was aimed squarely at the Sinn Fein leader’s fans in the US: “I’m sure it’s Irish America.
“They’re assuming that the Americans are mugs.
“True believers can be very strange people — and Adams does head a cult.”
