Larne fire out a real warning by signing quartet of ex-Reds stars

- BY GRAHAM LUNEY

IN another major statement of intent, Larne last night confirmed the signings of former Cliftonville players Ciaran Caldwell, Martin Donnelly, Paul Finnegan and Chris Ramsey.

The quartet will link up with former Solitude aces, goalkeeper Conor Devlin and striker David McDaid, who have already joined Tiernan Lynch’s side.

Significant financial investment from US-based millionaire owner Kenny Bruce is helping to shape an exciting new chapter in the club’s history and the recruitment of fresh talent underlines their ambition.

The new signings could come into contention for Larne’s Tennent’s Irish Cup tie next month.

Caldwell rejoined Cliftonville last summer following spells at Glenavon and Glentoran.

Donnelly has played for Crusaders and Cliftonville after spells in full-time professional football with Rochdale and Sheffield United.

The 29-year-old won a full international cap when he represented Northern Ireland in a friendly defeat against Italy in 2009.

Finnegan is a 21-year-old central defender, and spent the first half of 2017 at Cliftonville after signing from Bray Wanderers.

He returned to the League of Ireland in the summer with Longford Town. He served his football apprenticeship at Dundalk.

Defender Ramsey (27) played his football at Portadown before joining Cliftonville in the summer of 2016.

Injury disrupted his first season at Solitude.
