AIRBORNE WITH SANTA... 220 NI KIDS TAKE OFF ON A MAGICAL FESTIVE FLIGHT

- BY ADRIAN RUTHERFORD

A GROUP of children have been taken on a special festive flight searching for Father Christmas in the skies over Northern Ireland.

For many of the kids, it was their first time on an aircraft.

The flight from Belfast International Airport, involving 220 children and their families, was organised by the Thomas Cook Children’s Charity.

It has raised over £1million this year to support charities throughout the UK.

Other ‘Flight of Dreams’ took place in Manchester and the East Midlands.

At Belfast International Airport, children and their families were greeted by check-in staff dressed in Christmas jumpers, sang carols, had their faces painted and enjoyed festive fun with Santa’s elves, Princess Elsa and Batman.

During the onehour flight, they met Santa onboard the aircraft and received a special Christmas gift.

Aoife McDonogh from the Thomas Cook Children’s Charity said: “It was a magical day for all involved.

“For many, this was their very first time on an aircraft and it is fantastic to be able to create memories that I’m sure will stay with them for a long time.

“We are committed to improving children’s lives through our Thomas Cook Children’s Charity.

“The generosity of staff and holidaymakers means that we are able to bring a lots of smiles to really deserving children and their families.”

Graham Keddie, managing director of Belfast International Airport, said he hoped it was a magical experience for the families onboard.

“We are delighted to partner with Thomas Cook for this amazing flight for local children and their families,” he said.

“The Flight of Dreams is always a fantastic experience for all involved and we hope everyone involved has had a truly memorable experience.”
