McCartney keen for Mallards to put more points on the board
BALLINAMALLARD United and Coleraine are leagues apart at the moment, or rather, the length of a league apart.
Coleraine, flying high at the top with just one defeat and 48 points tucked away.
Ballinamallard are rock bottom, only five points for their troubles and the bookies don’t offer them a prayer this afternoon when Oran Kearney’s men come calling to Ferney Park.
United midfielder Jason McCartney takes some solace though that they gave the Bannsiders one of their sternest tests of the season to date at Ballycastle Road, but as has been the story of the season, their efforts counted for nothing following a 2-0 lead.
The Sligo man has been impressed with Coleraine and the piece of business carried out by Kearney in securing the services of Stephen Dooley from Cork City, although he isn’t available today, much to the Mallards relief.
“Coleraine are flying and they have just signed Dooley as well, it just shows that they really feel they can go on and win the league this season,” said McCartney.
“He’s a really good player and they’ve got Lyndon Kane and Eoin Bradley to come back.
“Dooley will do very well in this league, he’s good going forward, he can score goals and it’s good to see players like that coming back into the league.
“We’ve given teams good goes and played nice football and that can be even more disappointing, so maybe we have to look at what do we have to do to win a game.
“The boys are willing to fight on and fight really hard, we know it’s not going to be easy.
“We don’t believe we’ll finish bottom of the table and that’s the main thing.
