Ulster can take inspiration from comeback triumph: Piutau

- BY JONATHAN BRADLEY BY ADAM McKENDRY

ULSTER star Charles Piutau has called on the side to ensure Monday’s thrilling comeback victory over Munster is a turning point in their up and down season.

The province’s performances have been inconsistent throughout this campaign, mixing wins over the likes of Scarlets, Wasps and Harlequins with a record hammering to Connacht and a shock defeat in Zebre.

At 17-0 down to Munster at home on New Year’s Day, it seemed sure another forgettable performance was in the offing, only for a stunning comeback to see the side secure a 24-17 bonus-point win in the last minutes of the game.

Piutau (right) wants the dramatic fightback to be a catalyst for a successful second half of the season, starting with Saturday’s visit to old rivals Leinster in the RDS (5.35pm kick-off ).

“It wasn’t pretty out there but we’ll look back at the end of the season and say we got points from this game,” he said.

“New Year’s Day, we played in front of our crowd, coming from a game when we were hurting, and we got the result. We can go forward and build on this.”

Ulster train again today and hope to have Rory Best, Sean Reidy, Louis Ludik and Chris Henry all available. LINFIELD have made their second signing of the January transfer window by bringing in French striker Achille Campion until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old makes the journey north on a short-term deal from Airtricity League side Cork City until June.

Campion, regarded as a powerful forward, scored Cork’s equaliser in last year’s FAI Cup final against Dundalk, which they would go on to win on penalties, and also helped them to the Premier Division title in a double-winning campaign.

The Paris-born player will have to wait for international clearance before he can make his Linfield debut, but manager David Healy says he’s delighted to have signed the experienced Campion.

“Achille will add experience and quality to the options available to us in our forward line and I’m really looking forward to starting to work with him in training,” said Healy.
