Murray has proved point with Town, says Tipton
MATTHEW Tipton may be about to lose the services of his sharp-shooter Darren Murray, but the Warrenpoint Town manager has no complains about the frontman’s attitude this season.
Murray was given the opportunity to resurrect his career in the Danske Bank Premiership at the Q Radio Arena after a spell with Crumlin Star following his exit from Cliftonville.
Tipton hailed Murray’s arrival as the club’s biggest ever signing, and the striker has delivered on the pitch, scoring 10 goals in 18 league appearances this season.
The Belfast Telegraph revealed on Wednesday that Murray appears to be Seaview-bound after Warrenpoint had agreed a fee with Crusaders for the former Portadown ace.
The departure of the 26-yearold will be a blow to Tipton, but the Welshman has been impressed with Murray’s form and character.
“Darren could have done some things better but he has scored 10 goals for us and I’ve been happy with his attitude and performances,” said Tipton. “His approach in training and in matches has been first class.
“We have given him an opportunity to re-establish himself in the Premiership and he has taken that chance.
“With a player of that quality you want to keep him, and I’d be delighted if he stayed with us.
“In football things can change quickly and we will see what happens.”
Town face a difficult assignment tomorrow as they welcome league champions Linfield to the Q Radio Arena.
“Our home form must be better, and you always expect a difficult game against the club which is still the biggest in the country, despite their league position,” added former Blues striker Tipton.
“It is an occasion the players should embrace and go for the win. We got a 3-3 draw at Windsor, which was a valuable point, but I was disappointed with the three goals we conceded.
“We are working hard to improve defensively, and it’s just perhaps that 10 per cent of matches when we are poor and it has cost us.” Hitting form: Darren Murray has flourished at Warrenpoint and could be on his way to Crusaders
