Mourinho pledges future to United

- BY PHIL CASEY BY ROBERT JONES

UPBEAT Rory McIlroy has again insisted his health is good and that a first tournament win since September 2016 is “not far away”.

The golf world will be watching as the four-time major winner (28) makes his competitive comeback in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, teeing off at 3.40am UK time tomorrow morning.

He returns against a backdrop of revealing he has an irregular heartbeat, requiring constant monitoring, which he described as “not too big of a deal” and a last season cut short by injury.

“I feel prepared now, I feel ready and I feel ready to challenge,” he said. “I feel really good about where I’m at with my health.

“I’ve put all that behind me, which has been great.

“There is no reason to think a win is not far away. I’d love to get back in the winner’s circle as soon as possible.” JOSE Mourinho last night agreed a new £52million contract extension with Manchester United that will keep him at the club until 2022.

Mourinho’s current deal was set to expire next year.

The Portuguese’s unease over his transfer budget and his refusal to move out of the Manchester hotel he stays in led to speculation over his future. He took charge of United in 2016.

The 55-year-old is believed to have been convinced that United’s ambition matches his own by the club’s willingness to pay huge wages to attract Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez to Old Trafford even if, so far, there has been no deal concluded. That deal could now hinge on United player Henrikh Mkhitaryan accepting a move to Arsenal.
