Tennyson hopes victory will keep him on track for big showdown
HARD-HITTING super-featherweight James Tennyson headlines at the Europa Hotel tonight when he takes on Spanish-based Arnoldo Solano in an eight-rounder.
Victory for Tennyson would keep him ticking over as he aims for top opposition to help enhance his credentials as a worldranked fighter.
He was close to getting a crack at Mexico’s WBC champion Miguel Berchelt but that did not come off and he will now turn his attention to WBA king Alberto Machado.
Tennyson has featured on the last two Matchroom shows in Belfast so will be hoping that Eddie Hearn can help to nail down a big fight opportunity. His main focus for the time being, however, is on Nicaraguan Solano.
“All I have to do is keep on winning and we’ll see what happens,” said Tennyson.
Daniel ‘Insane’ McShane returns to the ring after almost three years away from the sport for a rematch with the man who defeated him in the Andersonstown Leisure Centre.
An injured shoulder ended McShane’s evening in the second round, blemished his unbeaten record and sent him into the wilderness. Now competing at super-lightweight, McShane rematches Zoltan Horvath and it would be a huge upset if the Hungarian managed a repeat victory.
“I am looking to win and look impressive doing it,” said a revitalised McShane.
This card also sees the return of another boxer who has been absent for an extended period when talented southpaw Stevie Quinn Jr enters the ring for the first time since 2015.
Quinn has enjoyed an interesting career that started off in his hometown before a move to Panama and more recently a fight in America. Quinn won an unlicensed bauble when headlining in Ards, just over two years ago. Boxing on his 25th birthday, there is still time for the Belfast man to make an impact, starting tonight against Edwin Tellez.
