As they seek to get on the board

son dismissed in injury-time and therefore missing out this time.

Cavan have confounded expectations with an unbeaten record, their last-gasp score earning a point on the road to Clare, before their thumping of Louth last Saturday night.

They come up against neighbours Meath in a clash that is sure to get the sap rising along the border, and while both teams have identical records, home advantage should prove a factor back in Kingspan Breffni Park.

Only Offaly’s dreadful scoring difference is keeping pointless Derry off the bottom of Division Three, and the two go head-tohead in Celtic Park tomorrow knowing a win — providing Wexford lose to Westmeath — can help them out of the relegation zone.

Something has got to give for either Armagh or Longford this weekend as both teams put their 100% records on the line in the Athletic Grounds.

Kieran McGeeney’s men have been flying with opening wins over Sligo and Westmeath and Ethan Rafferty has been shining at full-forward in the absence of Stefan Campbell and Jamie Clarke.

Fermanagh are the third team in Division Three to have enjoyed an unblemished record so far, with wins over Wexford and Offaly in Brewster Park.

Manager Rory Gallagher would acknowledge that the fixtures have favoured them but they have a test of mettle when they make the short journey to Sligo tomorrow.

However, given Sligo’s concession rate of scores at 19.5 points per game is almost twice that of Fermanagh’s — 10 — then all the indicators are that Fermanagh will remain top of the table.

Finally, Antrim are one of three sides in Division Four — the others being Laois and Carlow — who are guarding a 100% record as they welcome Wicklow to Corrigan Park tomorrow.

The Whiterock Road venue has become something of a fortress for Antrim in recent years, and Wicklow may offer little resistance after being soundly beaten in London last weekend by the Exiles. TYRONE have made an encouraging start to their campaign in Division Two of the Lidl Ladies Football National League but they will face a stern test of their credentials when they confront Tipperary at Drumragh tomorrow (1.00pm).

This will be a repeat of last year’s All-Ireland Intermediate final and the Red Hands are determined to maintain their impressive form to date.

They were certainly in fine scoring fettle when they chalked up 5-14 against Sligo last weekend with Gemma Begley grabbing three of their goals.

Begley can prove a central figure again while Emma Jane Girvan and Grainne Rafferty are also capable of getting on the scoresheet.

Victory would see Tyrone edge closer to a semi-final spot and manager Gerry Moane is hoping that his side can flourish.

Armagh face a trip to Sligo boosted by their hard-earned draw against Cavan last weekend in a match which saw the orchard county girls come up against their former manager James Daly.

Aimee Mackin, who lifted the Ladies Footballer of the Year last Friday, promptly provided further proof of her status by scoring eight points against Cavan.

Down certainly created an upset by the efficient manner in which they disposed of Roscommon last weekend (5-6 to 2-9) and they will now enter the fray in good heart against Longford.

Meanwhile, Cross and Passion College, Ballycastle will meet Presentation Convent, Thurles in the All-Ireland Senior ‘A’ Schools’ camogie semi-final today at Cushendun (12.00).

The Ballycastle side encountered difficulty in beating St Louis, Ballymena in the Ulster decider and will need to raise their game if they hope to get the better of their Munster opponents.

Maeve Kelly and Roisin McCormick can, however, help to fire up the Cross and Passion attack while Bronagh McKeague, Catherine McShane and Finvola McVeigh will have key roles in defence.

The O’Connor sisters Molly and Lucy are central figures in a Presentation Convent side that was stretched to the limit by Coachford from Cork in the Munster decider.
