Love is still in the air for diamond valentines
IT is a milestone Valentine’s Day for Danny and Dorothy McBride who will soon celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.
The Coleraine couple, both 82, will mark their diamond wedding anniversary on April 7.
They tied the knot in Macosquin, Co Londonderry, in 1958 after first meeting in a cafe.
Love is always in the air for the couple but Valentine’s Day is particularly special.
They will be at the centre of celebrations today at Ratheane Care Home, part of the Macklin Group, in Coleraine where they now live. Yesterday, Dorothy recalled the day she first set eyes on Danny.
“We met on a Thursday night. I was working in Patton’s Cafe and Danny came in. Married life has been good,” she said.
Dorothy added: “Aside from having my children, marrying Danny was one of the best days of my life.”
They have three children — Danny, Andrew and Sandra.
Son-in-law George Coulter said: “They are a lovely couple and if anybody deserves to celebrate Valentine’s Day in style they do.”
Nurse manager Araceli Flores from Macklin Care Homes said: “Danny is a true gentleman.
“He is always checking to make sure Dorothy is happy and their devotion to one another is clear to anyone who spends even a short time in their company.
“At Ratheane Care Home it’s important for us to celebrate Valentine’s Day. It’s not just for those residents who are couples, but for all residents and families.
“We want them to feel part of a kind, warm and loving environment. Caring with heart is a big part of the Macklin Care Home motto and marking such occasions is all part of providing the kindest care.”
