Haveron urges Glentoran to maintain their momentum

- BY ALEX MILLS

GLENTORAN boss Gary Haveron believes his men must claim three points from tonight’s clash against Ards at The Oval (7.45pm) if his team are to sustain their top-six challenge.

The east Belfast side nudged ahead of Ballymena United in the table following their midweek win at Carrick Rangers, but it took a last-gasp winner from Marcus Kane to nick the victory.

Haveron should be rubbing his hands because ailing Ards have shipped 10 goals in their last two games, but he is aware his boys have been far from impressive in the scoring stakes.

“Had we taken the chances in a lot of games, things would be a lot easier for us,” he said. “Ards may be leaking goals of late, but we’ve struggled to kill teams off.

“We wanted six points from these two games. We’ve three in the bank (against Carrick), so it’s important we get the job done.

“If they are conceding goals, that’s not my problem. I’ve got to worry about my own side, on how we can put in the best possible performance to get the win.”

Haveron has again promised to reshape his team — he made six changes for the midweek game at the Loughshore Hotel Arena. He added: “We altered the side for last week’s game against Crusaders, then we freshened up the squad for the Carrick match.

“Thankfully, we are in a position that we can pick and choose, depending on the opposition and state of certain pitches.

“Hopefully we can use players who can get on the ball and pass and move it a bit more.”
