Healy goes radio ga ga and slams links to Grimsby

DAVID Healy has insisted his commitment to Linfield is ‘unquestioned and stronger than ever’.

And in a hard-hitting interview with the Belfast Telegraph, the Blues boss (right) has blasted a weekend story linking him with the Grimsby Town manager’s job, declaring his only focus is on achieving further success at his beloved club Linfield.

Healy revealed he was stunned when he started receiving phone calls and messages on Saturday after BBC Radio Ulster suggested he had applied to take charge of the League Two outfit.

Later on during the Sportsound broadcast, covering the League Cup final between Ballymena United and Dungannon Swifts, it was stated that the show had since been informed there was nothing in the Grimsby link. For Healy, though, the initial report remained a source of frustration.

“I was bitterly disappointed when I heard. I also felt it was embarrassing, not on my behalf but for those who put it out because there was absolutely nothing to it,” said the boss who led Linfield to a treble last season.

“I couldn’t believe it when I started getting calls and messages. My commitment to Linfield is unquestioned. When I was appointed in 2015 I was totally committed to the task and I am totally committed now.

“In fact, I would say my commitment is stronger than ever because since becoming manager I now appreciate even more what the club means to so many people.”
