Probe after man dies on building site

- BY DAVID YOUNG

AN investigation has been launched into the death of a worker on a Co Fermanagh building site yesterday.

The man died in an incident at Market Street in the village of Ederney, around 15 miles north of Enniskillen.

The Ambulance Service said the air ambulance was scrambled to the scene following reports of a male in his 30s having received traumatic injuries.

Two ambulance crews were also dispatched to the scene.

The Health and Safety Executive said it was aware of the incident and was now investigating.

Fermanagh and Omagh SDLP councillor John Coyle described the news as “devastating”.

He added: “No words can describe what this poor man’s family must be going through.

“Ederney is a small village and everybody knows everybody.

“I want to send my deepest condolences to the family. I know that the close-knit community of Ederney will rally round and support the grieving family in the best way that they can.”

Fermanagh and South Tyrone UUP MLA Rosemary Barton said: “This is truly heartbreaking news

“The community is united in grief.

“No family ever wants to receive this devastating news, and my thoughts and prayers go out to them at this difficult time.”
