Wozniacki’s dad insists first Slam has fuelled her desire for more

CAROLINE Wozniacki is in her prime at the age of 27 after more than a decade playing tennis, and she doesn’t want to stop, her father and coach Piotr assured.

“There is no change in the team’s motivation after the Australian Open success,” he said. “The last success is the result of several years’ hard work, it didn’t surprise me. In a way, we were prepared for it. Now we have a new plan to keep going and we are trying to implement it.”

Adding that his daughter had Roger Federer and Serena Williams’ mentality, the senior Wozniacki commented: “Now that she has won the first (Grand Slam) title, she wants the second one, then the third and the following.

“She wouldn’t want to end her career now and I have many dreams as coach and father too.”

Meanwhile, third seed Roberto Bautista Agut joined No.6 seed Philipp Kohlschreiber in the second round of the Dubai Championships yesterday with a 6-3 6-4 defeat of Florian Mayer.

The Spaniard stands behind top seed Grigor Dimitrov and French second seed Lucas Pouille at the Aviation Club at an event which lost Federer at the last minute.

Bautista Agut’s win in 76 minutes ended a three-match losing streak which came after he won the Auckland title in January.

He will next face either Pierre Hugues Herbert of France or Portugal’s Joao Sousa.

“I felt great on the court,” said Bautista Agut, who broke his opponent five times.

“He was mixing up all his game, and playing very aggressive on the return.”
