Man (27) held on suspicion of murder over blaze deaths
THE PSNI yesterday appealed for information, saying it wanted to hear from anyone travelling through Derrylin in the early hours of yesterday.
The appeal came just hours after police had arrested a 27-yearold man on suspicion of murder in relation to the fire at a house on Molly Road.
The man was detained at the scene and was transferred to hospital for treatment before his arrest.
At a press conference outside Enniskillen Police Station yesterday afternoon, Fermanagh and Omagh District Commander Superintendent Jane Humphries said: “This morning a fire broke out at a house in the Molly Road area of Derrylin which has tragically claimed the lives of at least three people.
“First and foremost our thoughts are with them and their relatives. At this time we believe the fire was started deliberately.
“A fully trained team of PSNI detectives are now investigating and are examining the scene along with our colleagues in the NI Fire and Rescue Service.”
Superintendent Humphries said that investigations are “at an early stage” and revealed that police believe the fire started early on Tuesday morning.
She continued: “Police were called to an address in the Molly Road area of Derrylin at around 7.20am this morning.
“We believe the fire began in the early hours of this morning.
“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in, or travelling through Derrylin between midnight and the time the fire broke out. A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He was detained at the scene and transferred to hospital for treatment prior to his arrest.”
The Fire Service said they had received a call at 7.14am yesterday morning to the fire and had “dealt with a well-developed fire in a detached bungalow”.
Three fire appliances attended the incident — two from Lisnaskea and one from Enniskillen. The police are asking anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 179 27/02/18.
