For those with an interest in trout fishing, the Ballinderry River is said to be a location to visit, while Tullaghoge Fort is also fondly regarded in Tyrone. It was here that generations of the famed O’Neill clan crowned their leaders before going to Spain in what became known as the Flight of the Earls.

Also of great historical interest are the 18ft high ancient High Cross at Ardboe, which has carved details on the monument depicting biblical scenery, and the Bronze Age My nanny’s name is Bernie Girvan. Shortly after I was born, she discovered she had breast cancer. She had to have a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

While she was having this treatment, she received a lot of support from a charity called Lilac (Life Is For Living After Cancer). This charity helps people affected by cancer in the Mid Ulster area. Because of her treatment and the help she got from Lilac, my nanny made a full recovery.

For the past 10 years, my nanny has worked with Lilac. She spends all her spare time helping others who went through what she went through.

Nanny has 19 grandchildren and most of us are involved in helping out with Lilac because of her passion to give back to the charity that gave her hope and comfort when she was ill.

I have chosen my nanny because she is an inspiration, not only to my family but to the community. She is a positive person and is my special person because I think she puts a lot into a charity she has great belief in.

She has also instilled into myself and the rest of my family a great sense of faith and hope that people do care.
