Body of missing mum Kerry recovered from Bann
THE body of a missing Coleraine woman has been recovered from the River Bann.
Kerry Millar (50) was reported missing in the early hours of Saturday, February 24, after her car was found near the River Bann at Christie Park in the heart of the Co Londonderry town.
A round-the-clock search was launched involving the Community Rescue Service (CRS), the PSNI and dozens of volunteers, and it continued until yesterday afternoon when a body was recovered.
A spokesman for the PSNI told the Belfast Telegraph: “Police can confirm that the body of a woman recovered from the River Bann in Coleraine on Friday, March 2 was that of Kerry Millar who had been reported missing on Saturday, February 24.”
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time,” the spokesman added.
Ms Millar’s daughter, Nicole Archibald, speaking to the Belfast Telegraph last night, said: “On behalf of myself and my sister Kirsten, I would like to thank the Community Rescue Service and the PSNI for all their efforts in helping to recover my mother.
“We are all very relieved my mother has been found and that we have gotten her home. It has been a long week. We are obviously devastated but we are relieved to have her home at the same time.”
Sean McGarry from CRS said: “We recovered a body from the River Bann at around 3pm yesterday. We understand the family of Kerry Millar has positively identified her body.
“Our thoughts are with them at this time.”
CRS is a charity organisation with 10 teams based across Northern Ireland and is the primary responder for the PSNI for low-land search operations for missing persons.
The organisation is staffed entirely by volunteers and relies on donations and indeed people to sign up to help its services.
