Police get more time to quiz suspect over four deaths in blaze
THE bodies of the four victims of a house fire in Fermanagh were removed from the scene of the tragedy yesterday.
There was a heavy police presence last night as the vehicles carrying the bodies of an entire family including a baby girl drove slowly along the snow covered Molly Road bound for Belfast for postmortem examinations, the Impartial Reporter newspaper reported.
The family were named locally as Edward Gossett (16), his sister Diane Gossett (19), their mother Crystal Gossett, and Diane’s young daughter, who is understood to have been under two.
Detectives confirmed they were continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
A man who was arrested at the scene and had been under PSNI guard in hospital was moved to police custody for questioning earlier this week.
The PSNI said: “Police have attained extra time to question a 27-year-old man.”
It is understood the family originally came from Doncaster in the north of England, but had moved to Tralee in Co Kerry a number of years ago before moving to the house in Derrylin around 18 months ago.
Neighbours said they were not well-known in the area.
Father Gerard Alwill, parish priest of Knockninny, told the Belfast Telegraph that local people had hoped to hold a vigil for the deceased, but would wait until members of the bereaved family give their consent.
He added they had to be “sensitive and careful” to the family, but will say prayers for them during services this weekend.
The PSNI reported three bodies were found at the property following the blaze on Tuesday and two days later confirmed a fourth body, believed to be the toddler, was also recovered.
Police are appealing for anyone who knew the residents of 57 Molly Road, or who was in the area between midnight on Monday and 7.20am on Tuesday, to contact detectives in Enniskillen.
