Causeway top tourist venue from Belfast: TripAdvisor

- BY CLAIRE O’BOYLE

THE top tourist attractions starting off in Belfast have been named by the world’s largest travel website — with a day trip to the Giant’s Causeway at number one.

At number two is a tour of Game of Thrones sites, with Titanic Belfast coming third.

TripAdvisor’s latest Travel Trend Report shows tourists coming to Belfast are following global trends by enjoying more historical and heritage experiences.

As well as visiting the famous coastline, holidaymakers leaving Belfast on the number one Giant’s Causeway trip are also taken to the Old Bushmills Distillery and the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge to test their nerve.

Tourists embarking on the Game of Thrones tour from Belfast — which happens to take in the Giant’s Causeway too — also get to hear behind-the-scenes nuggets from the HBO hit series.

At Titanic Belfast, visitors can delve into the history of the world’s most famous vessel and explore at their own pace, enjoying interactive displays and exhibits.

At number four is Belfast’s Hop-On Hop-Off Tour, complete with a 48-hour pass. Visitors can create their own open-top bus adventure, with stops throughout the city from the murals, to St George’s Market, Titanic Dock and the Albert Clock.

Fifth on the influential list is the Guided Tour of Crumlin Road Gaol. The hour-long visit looks back at the many unsavoury characters who languished behind its bars.

At six is the Belfast Mural Tour, followed by the twomile Belfast Troubles Historical Walking Tour. Eighth is the Belfast Black Taxi Tour, followed by the Belfast Sightseeing Cruise at number nine. Another Game of Thrones Tour, this time bringing in Castle Ward, makes the list at number 10.
