Jackson ‘polite and friendly and laid back’, says brother’s partner

- BY CATE McCURRY

THE partner of Paddy Jackson’s brother has described the sports star as a “polite and friendly” man.

Eimear Murray, who is the partner of Paul Jackson, was called as a character witness for Jackson during the trial at Belfast Crown Court yesterday.

Ms Murray told the court that she lived with her partner and their young toddler at Jackson’s home a year before the alleged rape offence and for a year after.

It was made clear to the court that their daughter was not in the house at the time of the alleged incident in June 2016.

Ms Murray explained to the court that she has witnessed Jackson’s behaviour around “familiar and unfamiliar” females and has been with him in nightclubs.

She told the court: “He’s approached constantly on nights out both by males and females.

“He’s polite and obliges when people approach him for pictures.” She was also asked about his behaviour while consuming alcohol.

“He’s very laid back and when he drinks he becomes more laid back and relaxed,” Ms Murray added.

“He’s glad to be in the company of friends and family.”

She said that Jackson does not drink when he is training but added that he might go out for a drink after a game, or when he returns from a tour he would go out “a few more nights than normal”.
