Pair accused of trafficking woman for prostitution

A MAN and woman have appeared in court jointly accused of human trafficking and controlling prostitution.

Gyorgy Orsos (32), with a previous address at John Street in Dungannon, faces 10 charges involving three counts of human trafficking, and two counts each of controlling prostitution, rape and acquiring criminal property.

He is alleged to have facilitated the female victim’s travel to Northern Ireland with the view to exploiting her contrary to the Human Trafficking & Exploitation (NI) Act.

He is further accused of raping her on two occasions, destroying her phone and intentionally controlling her in prostitution for financial gain.

Finally, Orsos is charged with obtaining criminal property, namely £16,000 and a quantity of euros.

Evelyn Covacs (21) faces a single count of human trafficking, and two of controlling prostitution for gain.

These offences are alleged to have occurred on various dates between October 2016 and May 2017.

Orsos and Covacs are jointly accused of controlling a second alleged victim in prostitution between January and March 2017.

The alleged operation was uncovered following a police raid on premises in Dungannon after a member of the public reported concerns for the welfare of a young woman.

The pair had been scheduled to be formally arraigned at Dungannon Crown Court yesterday, but it emerged Orsos had sacked his legal team.

Covacs was arraigned and when the charges were read to her by a Hungarian interpreter, she replied: “I am innocent.”

She was remanded on continuing bail to an address at Galgorm Road in Ballymena.

Orsos has been remanded in custody since his arrest, having been refused bail.
