Masked man attacks bus lane cam car with hammer
A MAN wielding a hammer smashed the windows of a car used to monitor bus lanes on the Falls Road yesterday.
The attack on the Department for Infrastructure vehicle, which has the words ‘bus lane cameras’ emblazoned on its bonnet and a surveillance camera on its roof, occurred at around 4.15pm.
A witness said:
“There was a man wearing a mask, a balaclava.
“He hit the front and back windows with a hammer.
“He hit it until it came through.”
The PSNI confirmed that it had received a report of criminal damage to a vehicle parked on the Falls Road.
Inspector David McBride said: “It was reported that the windscreen and back passenger window was smashed by a male with what is believed to have been a hammer. No injuries were reported at the time.
“The male suspect was described as wearing a grey tracksuit and had his face covered.
“I am appealing to anyone who was in the Falls Road area this afternoon prior to or around the time the incident was reported and witnessed the incident, or any driver who has a dash cam fitted in their vehicle, to check their footage for anything which may be useful to our investigation.
“Please call police at Woodbourne on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 896 of 20/03/18.
“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
