Dad pays tribute after girl of 2 is killed when car plunges into river

- BY JOHANNA CARR

POLICE say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death of a “happy” and “smiley” little girl who was inside a car when it plunged into a river in Wales.

Kiara Moore died after being recovered from a silver Mini in the River Teifi in Cardigan on Monday.

Initially the two-year-old’s family feared the car had been stolen with her inside and posted appeals on Facebook for help to locate it.

But a search revealed the vehicle was in the river a short distance away from where it had last been seen.

Police, who were alerted to the missing car at around 3.30pm, said it was last seen outside an old Scout Hall where Kiara’s father, Jet Moore, runs an outdoor adventure company.

Officers later indicated the vehicle had been found.

Mr Moore suggested his daughter’s death was an accident after the car had rolled into the river, and Dyfed-Powys Police Emergency services at the scene of the accident at the River Teifi in Cardigan where a child died after being found in a vehicle in the water

confirmed that after “extensive inquiries” the force was not looking for anyone else in connection with the “tragic incident”.

Kiara, who would have celebrated her third birthday next Tuesday, was airlifted to University Hospital Wales where she was later pronounced dead.

Paying tribute to her, Mr Moore wrote: “She was an incredible, happy young girl who lived I hope a great adventurous fun life. And may have done more than most.”

Flowers and cards in were left near the old Scout Hall on the

Strand in tribute to the youngster. Next to the building, on a slipway that leads to the river, Grace Hills (32) and her oneyear-old son Parker placed a bunch of flowers, a pink heart helium balloon and a card.

Mrs Hills said she worked at a baby and toddler group in the village of Dre-fach Felindre that Kiara attended, and the card was one her son had made while painting with her.

She said she did not know exactly what had happened “but I just feel very sad for the little girl and for the family”.
