Magical Mackin pushes Armagh closer to a place in the last four

- BY JOHN CAMPBELL

ARMAGH hot-shot Aimee Mackin took her side a step closer to the Lidl Ladies National Football League Division Two semi-finals when she produced a stunning solo show in the team’s 3-12 to 2-6 win over Laois at Silverbridge yesterday.

Mackin proved unstoppable in compiling an explosive 3-7 personal haul that saw her leave an indelible imprint on the game.

Tyrone also remained in the frame for a last four slot following their 6-9 to 2-9 win over Clare at Drumgath. Down, too, tasted success by beating Kildare by 4-13 to 3-17 in Division Three having bagged points easily in their two previous fixtures when Leitrim and Longford conceded.

In Division One, Donegal were on fire against Kerry in winning by 6-11 to 0-9 while Monaghan beat Westmeath by 1-10 to 0-11.

But there was an unexpected reversal for Fermanagh who fell to Wicklow by 2-12 to 0-8 while Antrim lost to Louth by 0-8 to 0-6. And there was further agony for struggling Derry who suffered a heavy 6-10 to 1-4 defeat to Limerick.

In the Littlewoods National Camogie League, Antrim stayed on course for a last four place by beating Carlow by 2-10 to 0-12 with Orla O’Hara and Caoimhe McAleenan getting their goals.

Down will have taken heart for next Sunday’s meeting with Antrim from their commendable display against a formidable Cork side yesterday against whom they lost by 0-11 to 0-9.
