Quigley knows the score as Fermanagh target final flourish

SEAMUS Quigley will go into tomorrow’s Allianz Football League Division Three final against Armagh at Croke Park (5.00pm) aware that his Fermanagh boss Rory Gallagher trusts him to convert half-chances.

It was in the aftermath of a dour draw, 0-7 each, between the sides earlier in the league that Gallagher was prompted to further underline the Roslea clubman’s value to the Ernesiders.

“Most players will not convert all the chances you would want but Seamie will get you the 10 per cent shots,” insisted Gallagher.

That was never more in evidence than last Sunday when Quigley landed three late frees to transform what had been a two-point deficit into a onepoint winning margin against a Longford side that, in the view of their manager Denis Connerton, “thought they had it won”.

Quigley’s ice-cool finishing at a crucial stage of the game sends Fermanagh in against Armagh tomorrow confident that they can build on their league performances to date.

was a master-class in finishing.

Indeed, such was Quigley’s consistency for the greater part of the league that he became the latest winner of the Quinn Building Products Ulster GAA Writers Association monthly merit award.

Tomorrow, though, Quigley will stand up to be counted once again as Fermanagh bid to bring the curtain down on their vibrant league campaign in the grand manner.

“While it is good to get individual honours, it’s the team that matters most of all and I am only too delighted to continue to play my part,” maintains Quigley.

That ‘part’ could well see him cause problems for the Orchard county defence at Croke Park tomorrow.
