Chief Constable and John Taylor clash over Derry/Londonderry

-

Robert McClean: John Taylor is absolutely right. Londonderry is the correct name. Mixed identity is immaterial. It’s either the correct name or it isn’t.

Jake O Donnghaile: The correct name is Derry, Robert. The name was changed against the natives’ wishes.

Dean Keaton: Will The Apprentice Boys Of Derry have to change their name too ? Gerard Meighan: It was worn at Derry, Aughrim, Enniskillen and the Boyne?

Desi Maguire: The name on my birth certificate is Desmond, most people know me as Desi. I don’t care one way or the other which people opt to use, it’s not important, I enjoy life. Live life people, we’re here for a short time. When I die I don’t care whether Desmond or Desi is put on my headstone.

Martin Gibson: John Taylor... well said, it’s Londonderry... it’s been swept under the carpet too long. Now even buses say Derry/Londonderry — becoming a neutral country.

Billy Cameron: Petty and small-minded John. Obviously no lessons were learned from ‘The Indian’ saga.

Debbie McKittrick: Keep up the good work and leave these criminals/ paramilitaries no place to hide. The problem has been swept under the table for far too long; allowing them to take more power and control. At last steps are being taken to put this issue to right and this should be welcomed by all right thinking people.

Edward Forsythe: Just because bigoted planters changed the native name it doesn’t mean everyone has to follow suit Rob.

Nadine Thompson: Think that we have more to be concerned about these days than the name of a city.

Russell Fallis : Well said Chief Constable, you keep doing the grown up stuff.

Ruth Lynas: Honestly, let’s just use the one we prefer.

Paul Andrew Stewart:

I don’t mind whether it’s Derry or Londonderry as they both mean the same city.
