We won’t hand Crues title to deny our rivals, fumes Jeffrey

DAVID Jeffrey has come out fighting on judgement day of the Irish League title race slamming suggestions that Ballymena United will roll over against Crusaders so that his side’s fiercest rivals Coleraine won’t be crowned champions.

In what has been a gripping battle for the Gibson Cup, the Crues and Coleraine are level on points at the top of the table with one game left but Stephen Baxter’s men are in pole position courtesy of their vastly superior goal difference.

Oran Kearney’s side are away to third placed Glenavon this afternoon and in a twist of final day fixtures fate the Bannsiders need a favour from their derby foes Ballymena at home to Crusaders to lift the club’s first championship since 1974.

With no love lost between Coleraine and Ballymena fans, questions have been raised about how much the

Sky Blues will be up for the crunch encounter leading to United manager Jeffrey (left) fuming at those who think his players won’t give their all. “Anyone that suggests we won’t try our best is talking an absolute load of nonsense,” blasted the former Linfield boss.

“They don’t have a clue what they are talking about and they don’t know David Jeffrey.

“Coleraine are our biggest rivals but I will tell you now that we will be going out with the same attitude against Crusaders as we have in other games.”
