McFall hails character

RONNIE McFall admits it would be a massive achievemen­t if Glentoran qualify for the Europa League — but he’ll not be around to see it!

The veteran manager mastermind­ed a dramatic 4-3 Big Two victory over ailing Linfield at Windsor Park last night which put the Glens within touching distance of a £200,000 jackpot.

McFall was parachuted to replace the sacked Gary Haveron three months ago and he is now only 90 minutes away from a fairytale exit because Saturday will be his swansong.

“The situation hasn’t changed... Saturday will be my last game in charge,” said McFall. “I came in initially to steady the ship and help the club out.

“I didn’t think I would be here as long. I thought there would have been someone appointed by this stage. There have been a few people that have turned down the job, but it’s nothing to do with me.”

McFall saluted the character of his team to battle back from what was a seemingly hopeless position at 2-0 down.

“I can’t fault the players since I’ve come in,” he added. “They are all good lads and I’m delighted with the response I’ve got from them. Football is all about attitude and mental strength. If you get those two right, then you have a chance.
