Superbike ace Rea among the honours at university
University degree: Jonathan Rea THREE-TIME World Superbike champion Jonathan Rea is to be honoured by Ulster University.
A total of 14 people will receive honorary degrees at the university’s upcoming graduation ceremonies.
Rea, from Ballyclare in Co Antrim, won his third successive World Superbike title last year.
Bronagh Gallagher, the Londonderry actress and singer, will also be honoured.
The Director General of the BBC, Tony Hall, will be recognised, while Professor Alan Livingston is being honoured for his services to higher education.
Sarah Friar from Co Tyrone, named as one of the most influential female tech execs in Silicon Valley, will be honoured for her service to the international technology industry.
Professor Dermot Diamond is being recognised for his contribution and influence on Irish traditional music, while artistic director Zoe Seaton is being honoured for her contribution to the arts with acclaimed pianist and vocal coach Ingrid Surgenor.
Former Dean of Belfast The Very Reverend John Mann, The Very Reverend William Morton and Fergal McCormack, are recognised for their civic contributions while Professor Ed Marram is honoured for his academic and technical accomplishments.
Mohammed Jalie and Elaine Way, the former chief executive of the Western Health Trust, are recognised for services to health.
