Foster’s invite to Ulster final after hailing brave Fermanagh
DUP leader Arlene Foster has been invited to the Ulster GAA final after Fermanagh secured a place in the showpiece match against all the odds.
The invitation came after the Fermanagh MLA hailed her county’s team after a shock victory sent them into the final for the first time in 10 years.
The Ernemen defeated red-
hot favourites Monaghan 1-8 to 0-10 in yesterday’s semi-final in Omagh with a last-gasp goal.
“Congratulations to my fellow county men who have just surprised those in the know,” the
Former First minister tweeted. Player Ciaran McBrien was quick to respond to Mrs Foster.
“Cheers mate, we have a ticket saved for you for the final,” he tweeted, alongside a row of green hearts and a photo of the team bus erupting in celebrations.
Team coach Rory Gallagher was delighted with his side’s performance.
“We’re very happy with the way the game went from our point of view,” said Gallagher.
“Monaghan are seen as one of the top four or five teams and we are not seen as coming from that level.” Team skipper Eoin Donnelly scored the goal for unfancied Fermanagh, who are the only Ulster county never to have won the Anglo-Celt cup.
“While we are looking forward to the Ulster final now we know it will be a very tough challenge no matter who we meet,” he said.
He added it would be “heads down” until the game in St Tiernach’s Park in Clones on June 24.
