I deserve my £150k BBC pay: McEnroe

JUBILANT Lionel Messi last night pointed to another Hand of God intervention keeping his and Argentina’s World Cup dream alive.

Argentina were facing an inglorious group stages exit until Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo volleyed home at the death to send the South Americans through with a 2-1 win at the expense of Nigeria and World Cup debutants Iceland, who lost 2-1 to group winners Croatia.

Argentina will now play their get out of jail card against France on Saturday after another great VAR JOHN McEnroe has defended the Wimbledon pay package he receives from the BBC on the basis that “you get paid for the job you do”.

It was revealed earlier this year that the American gets paid £150,000 for his commentary work at Wimbledon, which starts next week, leading to an outcry from the women’s game over equal pay.

One of the most outspoken was 18-time Grand Slam champion Martina Navratilova, who will be a co-commentator for the BBC alongside McEnroe at SW19.

McEnroe was defended by the BBC, but the tennis legend has spoken out himself, arguing the situation between he and Navratilova “isn’t comparable”.

“It’s like if you work at a paper and there’s a woman and a man: I believe you’re going to get paid based on the job that you do,” McEnroe claimed.

“If the girl does the better job, she should get more money. That’s what it boils down to.”
