Andersson slams Germans again after celebration fury resurfaces

JANNE Andersson has once again criticised Germany for the “scornful” celebrations that followed their late winner against his Sweden team last weekend.

The Swedes reacted angrily to what they perceived to be overly-exuberant and provocative scenes from their opponents near their dugout following Toni Kroos’ last-gasp winner.

Andersson was at the heart of that and, speaking to a press conference ahead of today’s crunch clash with Mexico, he made no apologies for his reaction.

“If I hadn’t responded I would have been absolutely dead emotionally,” he said. “That was scornful. They were taunting us. It had nothing to do with football. On the pitch, there’s emotions, feelings, but unsportsmanlike behaviour against your opponents, that’s not okay.”

Sweden captain Andreas Granqvist admitted that the way some of the Germany staff reacted to Kroos’ winner left a sour taste and he hopes his players will channel their frustration in a positive way against the Mexicans.

“I’ ve seen the images, we heard from players and leaders afterwards that the behaviour was very poor on behalf of the Germans,” the defender added.

“They did apologise, we dropped it afterwards, but for a few hours afterwards the disappointment was very, very big — not just that we lost the game but how they behaved.

“We hope to get everything out on the pitch against Mexico.”
