New Garda boss Harris must not replicate ‘toxic culture of RUC’

-

Glenn Dougherty: Disgusting behaviour from Sinn Fein. The mask has slipped. They simply cannot hide their hatred for the forces of law and order.

Norman McCleery: Wait for the Provo apologist meltdown, Glenn.

Glenn Dougherty: Oh, yeah. Social media is full of Connolly House robots, Norman. Richard Doherty: Irish Republic toxic policing should not be repeated, either. I just don’t understand why someone from the PSNI was given this job, since they come from a culture of similar policing.

Allan Barton: A great appointment for all of Ireland, Drew is only too well aware of the huge price of terrorism and will “lead from the front”, coming from what is regarded as the finest force in the world — the RUC and, later, the PSNI. I think Drew will be a brilliant Commissioner. Why don’t we just give him the chance to lead and drive the Garda forward?

Mark Toman: If you didn’t break the law, you would have no dealings with the forces of law and order.

Trevor Heaslip: Sinn Fein didn’t select him, so bound to complain.

Paul Hillis: Mr Harris entered an open and transparent competition against candidates from across the globe and was found to be the best person for the job. His track record is second to none among professional police officers. His appointment is on merit only and he will be a significant loss to the PSNI and an asset to the Garda. Take off your blinkers.

Dereck McCready: Mr Harris’s track record is excellent — a very professional police officer and a great asset to any police force.

David Graham: No one politicises policing like Sinn Fein.

David Rea: Great choice for Garda boss.
